The other day after sampling Five Guys, we walked off the post burger belly blues with a stroll down the Embankment and over to the Southbank. We crossed the bridge just as the sun was starting to set. Sunsets anywhere are beautiful but it felt especially poignant watching the sky change colours over the city I called home- I couldn't imagine being anywhere else and at times like this I fall in love with this place all over again. Forgotten are the rush hours spent squished on the Victoria line while I sample a stranger's morning breath in my face. Forgiven are all the times I've had to reluctantly hand over my travel money to TFL for squishing me into said rush hour tube or the tourists that slow you down on the pavement, the rudeness, or the overpriced everything...

The Southbank has become a real tourist haven over the last few years. The last time I had hung around along here was as a student, wandering by the river looking for a random street rave at the Festival Pier in the middle of October (we found it and it was over in minutes) Nowadays, tourists flock here to go on the London Eye and wander from the Royal Festival Hall to the Tate Modern.
Along the way, we bumped into some skateboarders collecting petition signatures to save the Southbank- they're being pushed out to make way for something boring and generic and chainy and so I signed my name (and my whole family's as well- sorry guys) The teenage sk8er girl in me wanted to show my solidarity for them but no one was up for a fist bump (are those still cool?) Read the Save the Southbank campaign and sign your name (entire family 's names optional)
By the time we reached the Tate Modern, the sky was getting darker and you could see the beautiful lights of the city across the river. The walk along the river was filled with after work drinkers and joggers, to taco stands and art installations. As we approached Southwark Bridge we stopped to take some awkwardly posed photos...

Just as we were busy declaring our love for the city and jumping in freeze frame frenzy, some weirdo pervert appeared behind us and yelled out how he would like to lick our dirty feet and throw us into the river, promptly putting a stop to all that soppy nonsense.
...it's alright though, me and London are still friends.
